Mark Upton

It aims to challenge lifelong learners to act within their local contexts according to life-affirming values which are bio-collective-thriving in approach. He was previously the Director of Education at ICONA Group, China.  

Mark graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education & PE/Geography in 1984 and has worked in the education sector ever since.  

With 40 years of experience as an educator and running schools and colleges in both UK and China, he believes he has the skills required to support and empower alumni in the UK and internationally.  

He wishes to give back to the University and fellow alumni by utilising his skills and capabilities in Professional Development and being an international entrepreneur.  

Mark has always been involved with the China-based Loughborough University alumni groups and has attended dinners and meetings in different cities, and helped in providing advice for members as they develop in their careers and to the alumni leaders as they seek to expand their impact and outreach. He hopes to link both Loughborough alumni communities in the UK and China, and support in different areas of alumni engagement.  

He also attempts to utilise his extensive networks across Business, Education, Sports Development and Sustainability, to provide internship opportunities, cross-cultural research, and sponsorship.  

Mark started his 3-year term in September 2023.
