This MSc Infrastructure Asset Management offers the ideal way to develop current and future asset management leaders with specialist education from a leading UK university.

Our MSc Infrastructure Asset Management is studied part-time over three years and is designed to equip you with the management and leadership capabilities required to lead asset management functions at a senior level.

Compulsory modules

The aims of this module are to:

  • develop self-awareness of personal effectiveness and recognition of understanding of influencing others as a leader;
  • explore the practical application of theory to fostering more effective work relationships;
  • introduce methods for finding, analysing and using relevant data to produce persuasive, evidence-based reports;
  • build strategies for continuing personal development;
  • develop ethical decision making practices.

The aims of this module are to:

  • provide students with the knowledge and skills to create a strategic business plan.
  • equip students with knowledge on horizon scanning, strategic positioning, strategic capabilities and resources, strategic options and innovative strategic thinking including the governance and risk analysis of successful strategic implementation;
  • create an understanding of risk factors and the importance of stakeholder engagement and governance models;
  • create an innovative strategic plan for a business which gains support from stakeholders and addresses risk factors involved in the implementation of the plan.

The aim of this module is for the student to understand the range of asset management principles and demonstrate contextual knowledge of the industrial projects, enterprises, environments and stakeholders associated with complex engineered products & services.  Whilst the nature of the role of asset management has evolved markedly over recent decades, it is the ability to take that role's holistic perspective that the module aims to develop in the student.

The aims of this module are to: 

  • develop the ability of participants to critique approaches to financial and cost management within an organisational context of asset management.     
  • equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary for the effective use of accounting and financial information in the management of commercial organisations, to be able to challenge financial assumptions in accounts, budgets and strategic decisions. 
  • develop the ability to utilise asset costing and valuation techniques and apply uncertainty analysis
  • monitor and report on the performance of assets and asset management. 

The aim of this module is for the student to understand the operational demands of asset management and project delivery implications, whilst considering risk and resilience management. 

Compulsory modules

The aim of this module is for the students to understand the relationship between creative management, innovation and enterprise in a learning environment that provides the interactive methods and tools for individual and group success.

The aims of this module are to provide a rigorous approach for all engineering students to acquire the principles, concepts and outline applications of systems-based studies.

The aims of this module are to:

  • develop participants' understanding of leadership, particularly within an environment of change
  • increase participants' skills in building agile and collaborative cultures which gain buy-in for change initiatives
  • equip participants with tools and methods to initiate and lead change in organisations and to manage conflict that might arise from the change process
  • identify methods for influencing organisational vision, culture and values
  • shape and manage communication strategy within change initiatives
  • develop skills to influence upwards and outwards
  • enhance negotiation and advocacy skills to build reputation and effective collaboration with diverse groups of stakeholders.

The aims of this module are: 

  • to provide students with an understanding of the role and importance of information systems in asset management organisations; 
  • to integrate the various core components of asset management and reinforce the concept of management as an integrated multi-disciplinary activity; 
  • to recognise key criteria in relevant analytical tools and assess their usefulness to the organisation; 
  • to develop relevant transferable skills. 
  • to develop the ability to work independently.

Compulsory modules

The aims of this module are to:

  • Develop a working knowledge of the standard processes and methods used in business and management research;
  • Give students the experience of executing a previously designed, practically-based research study on an aspect of management of their choice;
  • Integrate ideas from the taught programme into this problem-solving context.

Our entry requirements are listed using standard UK undergraduate degree classifications i.e. first-class honours, upper second-class honours and lower second-class honours. To learn the equivalent for your country, please choose it from the drop-down below.

Entry requirements for United Kingdom

A minimum of three years’ management/professional experience plus a 2:2 honours degree (or equivalent international qualification) or membership of an approved chartered institute or a diploma in management studies. Applicants seeking entry based solely on work experience will still be considered but may be invited to interview.

Applications are welcome from all applicants with a degree-level (or equivalent) qualification or substantial relevant work experience, specifically:

  • applicants with a bachelor’s degree from a UK or recognised overseas university with a second class honours or equivalent;
  • applicants who have achieved the academic requirements for corporate membership of a British Chartered Professional Institute (equivalent to QCF level 6 or above) or any other relevant qualification;
  • applicants who possess at least three years of managerial experience with a reasonable level of formal academic education.

GCSE English and Maths (grade C or above), or equivalent are a compulsory requirement.
