Men's Rugby Union

Loughborough Rugby is proud to offer the opportunity to enjoy Rugby Union at every level. Whether you're at the top of your game, an aspiring coach or want to play for fun, our programmes offer you the chance to maximise your development through an extensive support package.

Performance

Our Performance Teams compete in RFU National 1 (Tier 3) and in BUCS Super Rugby, the top tier of University rugby.  The Rugby Programme benefits from formal partnerships with England 7s, the RFU and most recently Leicester Tigers, which enhances our ability to provide a professional rugby environment where players can reach their potential.

Athletic Union Club

Loughborough Students RFC (LSRFC) is a student-based rugby club made up of around 150 players.  Approximately 85 of those players participate in our BUCS 2-4 teams playing against other institutions’ first XV’s in the BUCS Premiership, BUCS Tier 1 and BUCS Tier 2 providing challenging fixtures all the way through the club.  The depth of talent that we attract ensures a competitive programme where player development is the key focus and where players often progress through to higher levels during their time with us.

Training

A normal training week includes:

  • 1 Match (Wednesday)
  • 3 Team rugby sessions
  • Additional units and skills sessions

Joining the Club

Trials for Loughborough Students RFC are held at the start of each academic year and follow a multi-stage process including positional assessment and matches.  All players wishing to trial are asked to register using our online registration form (please see Prospective Players box above); registration to trial for the 18/19 season is now open.

Hall Sport (IMS)

We encourage you to compete in Rugby for you halls of residence in IMS competitions held throughout the year. A friendly, yet competitive league gives you the chance to compete alongside your friends for the coveted title each year. The best players from each hall are then selected for the IMS All Stars programme where you'll go head to head in an IMS vs BUCS fixture.

Within most sports there are a range of sports volunteering roles and opportunities for you to get involved and gain experience in. This ranges from coaching and officiating to events, marketing and media and sport science support.
