There are lots of exciting career opportunities in chemistry
Our chemistry courses are orientated towards the practice of chemistry in the world. Master of Chemistry (MChem) undergraduate courses prepare students for research work in industry or a PhD research course. Our Chemistry BSc courses equip you for employment in chemistry, scientific and related technical sectors. Our graduates have gone on to pursue exciting careers within such diverse organisations as GlaxoSmithKline, BUPA, Pirelli, Nova Nordish, Lubrizol and Fujitsu.
You'll have access to some outstanding facilities
We believe hands-on laboratory experimentation is vitally important to the development of your chemical education. Opened in 2017, STEMLab acts as a hub for science students, providing a student-focused learning environment in which to grow your laboratory practical skills.
Your Loughborough Chemistry experience will be enhanced by STEMLab's state-of-the-art chemistry facilities with separate laboratories for synthetic chemistry, physical and analytical measurements, and bioscience experiments. Extensive fume cupboard provision and the latest equipment allow a wide range experiments to be undertaken safely.
In addition to STEMLab, recently refurbished laboratories in the Sir David Davies Building offer an ideal research environment for advanced project work, further enhancing our ability to train the chemists of the future.
Specialist research instruments and equipment include: 400 and 500 MHz NMR spectrometers, powder X-ray diffractometers, a high resolution inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometer, GC-MS and linear ion trap LC-mass spectrometers, ion mobility spectrometers, gas and liquid chromatographs, and flow and microwave synthesisers.
You'll join an exciting research environment applying scientific expertise to global challenges
Our academic staff and research students are actively engaged in many high-profile and important research projects that have a 'real world' impact in such vital areas as energy and the environment, defence and security, and health and medicine.
Your studies will be enhanced by guest lectures and opportunities to compete for awards and prizes
Our reputation attracts academics from around the world and enables us to deliver a programme of seminars and public events that enrich the student experience, giving you the opportunity to hear from Nobel Prize and RSC award-winners at the cutting-edge of their fields.
In addition, we encourage our students to take part in such events as the RSC Twitter Poster Conference, gaining exposure and invaluable feedback for project work. The outstanding achievements and efforts of our students are also recognised by a series of Departmental Awards and Prizes.
