Tips for choosing accommodation

Our biggest piece of advice would be to stay open-minded – coming to University is all about trying new things and meeting new people. No matter what hall you end up in, you’re guaranteed to have the best time.

In a recent survey with current students, we found out what the top three most important factors are in deciding university accommodation.

On average, over 59% of students secure their first choice of accommodation, but don’t feel too disheartened if you don’t get the one you were initially hoping for. We spoke to some current students who did not manage to secure their first choice of accommodation and a huge 84% of them said they felt happy with the hall they were allocated.

We really do mean it when we say you’ll have the best time in whichever hall end up in – it’s all about making the community your home.

Location, location, location

Luckily, all of our halls of residence are within walking distance of town and most are centrally positioned on campus making it really convenient to get to your lectures, the library and other facilities. Take a look at our interactive map to help you decide where you would like to live.

Let us do the cooking for you!

Catered halls are a traditional part of the Loughborough student experience. Dining halls are a fantastic way to socialise, plus if coursework deadlines are looming you can eat and dash - no need to worry about shopping, cooking and washing up! Alternatively, self-catered halls provide the opportunity to improve your cooking skills and gain that all-important independence.

What’s your budget?

Before you start making any decisions you'll need to have a think about budget so that you know what halls are available within your price range. You may be eligible for a student loan that will cover the cost of your accommodation too, so it really does pay to do your research in advance.
