Research degrees

In addition to our exciting range of taught programmes, there are also a variety of funded and unfunded opportunities to join the Institute for Diplomacy and International Governance as a doctoral researcher. You can develop your own unique research proposal or browse our current list of PhD opportunities – either way, we’d love to hear from you.

Research and teaching

You will work collaboratively alongside academic staff and each other to enrich your studies. You will have the opportunity to become experts in many topical issues such as the repercussions for global politics and trade of the UK’s exit from the EU (Brexit); the lessons of the Covid-19 health pandemic for international politics; the impact of digitisation on the conduct of diplomacy throughout the world and many others. You will have the opportunity to develop the skills and networks that will open doors to a wide variety of professional futures where your ability to decode the world around you will be distinctive.

Our PhD students receive a comprehensive package of training, support and intellectual stimulation to continue into an academic career, or to fill professional roles where their research skills, networks and experience are at a premium.

Based on our London campus, you will have access to all the facilities within our building, plus opportunities to learn outside the campus throughout your studies with us.
