Options to start a master’s programme in 2020/21

In this most challenging of years, we understand the need to provide reassurance and flexibility to our postgraduate applicants. For the next academic year, Loughborough University is offering a flexible range of admissions options, all of which maintain the highest level of academic rigour within our master’s portfolio.

Start your studies in September 2020

We intend to admit a cohort of postgraduate students to our full range of master’s programmes at our Loughborough and London campuses in autumn 2020.

As well as our usual face-to-face teaching on campus, the majority of programmes will also provide Semester 1 modules online so you can start your studies remotely if you are unable to join us in person. Lecture material will be delivered through our virtual learning environment, and there will be interactive tutorials/seminars and a range of other opportunities to interact with staff and other students on your programme.

This will ensure that those who cannot travel are still able to begin their course as planned in September 2020 and join us on campus when they are able to do so. We hope that this will be particularly reassuring to international students who may have concerns about when travel restrictions will be lifted.

All Loughborough master’s programmes will offer the option of beginning your September 2020 study online with the exception of the following. Due to the nature of their teaching, these programmes will only be taught in person on campus.

If you choose to begin your studies online, you will need to have arrived on campus before the start of the second semester (February 2021). If this later turns out not to be possible, you will be allowed to pause your studies and complete your course on campus the following academic year.

Choose a January 2021 start

We will also be offering a number of Loughborough master’s programmes with a January 2021 start date across our two campuses.

Master's programmes starting in January will run for 13 months through to the end of January 2022. Detailed programme specifications for courses starting in January 2021 will be available by the end of June.

Please note: if you are an EU student and defer your entry to January 2021, you may be required to apply for a student visa under the UK Government’s new post-Brexit Points Based Immigration System. Further announcements on this will be made in due course here.

How do these arrangements impact on my accommodation options?

What precautions is Loughborough University taking to ensure the health and safety of students on campus?

Since lockdown began in the UK, several hundred students have been unable to move out of their Loughborough University campus accommodation. Approximately 50% are international students.  Loughborough continues to provide accommodation, cleaning services and prepared meals for our students. Next academic year, we will continue to support our students in every possible way. We will of course comply with social distancing requirements, ensure hand wash stations and hand gel dispensers are available across our campuses, and intensify our cleaning regimes. We continue to invest heavily in the services available for the health and wellbeing of our students and staff.
