Guidance on how to apply

The guidance below takes you through the process of application to UNITECH. Please read it carefully.

1. How to apply

  1. The online application form is at www.unitech-international.org/. The application period opens on 15 October 2023.
  2. There should be an obvious application link on the landing page of the above website.
  3. Click on 'Application' link and then choose Loughborough University. You will be asked to set up an account.
  4. Follow the instructions to apply.
  5. Leave plenty of time – you have to research the universities you would like to do your study exchange with and this can take a while to do.
  6. You are able to save the application and return to it at a later time.

2. Shortlisting three universities for study exchange:

  • The application process asks you to shortlist three of the seven partner universities for your potential study exchange location.
  • UNITECH International allocates successful students to one of the three shortlisted universities – so make sure you would be happy to go to any of them.
  • Read about each partner University in the UNITECH Programme Handbook .
  • Please note: some of the partner Universities have more modules taught in English at Master’s level than at the undergraduate level, but it might be possible to take those even if you are only now in Part B.
    • Politecnico di Milano, for example, tend to accept students taking Master’s level modules even if you have completed only two years of study.
    • Chalmers University, for example, prefer to accept students who have completed three years of study by the time they start the exchange.
To be sure of these requirements, please check the partner webpages and, if in doubt, contact the Unitech Local Office Co-Ordinator at the partner University (details on how to contact them provided below).
  • Research the universities to ensure they offer modules you are interested in and able to study i.e. there is a School, department or faculty that matches your subject area. To do this, start by clicking on the view buttons for the applicable universities, on the UNITECH Application page, as per below:
Screengrab showing the 'view' buttons for the UNITECH university partners.
  • If you are finding it difficult to find module information for any of the exchange partners, you can contact the applicable university's UNITECH Local Co-ordinator for support. These are in the Programme Handbook.

You need to check which Semester the modules run and that they match when you would complete your study exchange: you need to find modules that take place in Semester 1/ Autumn Semester.

Module Choice Support from Loughborough University:

  • You will be applying to undertake UNITECH in Part I (of any Engineering programme) of your studies:
  • The modules you study while on a study exchange will not replace any taught modules at Loughborough University and so you are advised to look for modules that are similar to your subject area but there is some scope to consider modules that you might not ordinarily find on your degree programme.
  • You need to look for modules that are equivalent to approximately 30 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) or as close as possible. Most universities will list credits in this way, as well as their own credit system.
  • If you are not sure about your module choices and would like to discuss them with a member of staff at Loughborough University, you were be advised to speak with your School/department Exchange Co-ordinator.
  • Please do not contact the Exchange Co-Ordinators until you have fully researched the possible universities and started to form a provisional list of modules.
