Project Expectations

Project Expectations is one of the six enabling project initiated following the agreement of the new University Strategy by Council in March 2022. Sponsored by the Vice Chancellor and led by the Director of Organisational Development and Director of Human Resources, Project Expectations will play a central role as the University embarks on its next strategic cycle through to 2030.

Project Aims

  • Project Expectations, as part of the Enabling programme, is focused on strengthening leadership, value, staff development, recognition, and internal communications to create a foundation for the University's 2030 strategy. 
  • The project's aims include fostering an inclusive culture, empowering staff, and recognising their contributions for a thriving community driving impactful research and student success.
  • Project Expectations aims to drive forward a cultural shift, aligning University policies to bring the new strategy and vision to life at Loughborough University.

When we launched Project Expectations, it was in response to specific needs within our people and culture space, with the aim of laying a strong foundation for the University’s 2030 Strategy. “Project Expectations was established to ensure that the people & cultural issues associated with the introduction of a new strategy were considered. The objectives of the project focussed on ensuring that staff knew what was expected of them, and in return consideration was given to what staff valued and acted upon. The role of the line manager in positively influencing staff’s experience was identified early in the project, and as such the introduction of academic line management became a new but important project deliverable, along with recognising the need to develop our leadership and management community to deliver a great staff experience. A key outcome of the project has been the development of GLOW, not only because it has the potential to deliver a sector-leading experience for staff, but the way by which it was developed. Co-designed by our academic and professional services colleagues, grounded in research, and tested in practice GLOW has become a trigger for a broader approach to People & Culture. The collective efforts of all of the project management team and wider contributors has meant that the University has now committed to the development of a People & Culture Strategy that will ensure that the remaining deliverables from Project Expectations will become elevated and will be further enhanced through our strategic efforts. This is evidence of the project’s success and thanks go to all involved.’’
