Scopus

Scopus is an abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature: academic journals, books and conference proceedings. Scopus is a comprehensive resource covering chemistry, physics, mathematics and engineering; life and health sciences; social sciences, psychology, business and economics; arts and humanities and biological and environmental sciences. It also includes the Geobase database.

Covers a wide variety of disciplines including engineering, sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities. Search features include cited reference searching allowing you to discover who has referenced a particular work since it was published.

PubMed

A free resource containing references to literature in areas such as biosciences, medicine, health and life sciences, chemical sciences and bioengineering. Some overlap with the MEDLINE database.

SciFinder-n

Covers all areas of chemistry as well as biology, medicine, engineering, material science and more.

Reaxys

Covers an extensive collection of organic, organo-metallic, and inorganic chemistry data. Reaxys enables you to search by structure, substructure, reaction, text, and property data. Reaxys is valuable for obtaining preparation/reaction methods and physico-chemical data for pure compounds. You can also access the Reaxys Medicinal Chemistry, Reaxys Predictive Retrosynthesis, and Reaxys Commercial Substances modules.

Books E-books Catalogue

You can access books and e-books via the Catalogue (also known as Library Catalogue Plus) to search for and check their availability. The Catalogue also provides links to e-books and displays the shelf marks of physical books in the Library. We have detailed the shelf marks of the most popular topics below (the level is for the Library in Loughborough).

Download the VPN and log onto it before searching for resources off-campus.  This link will show you how to download this onto your device.

Some databases provide the full-text of the article in the database in either HTML or PDF format. Others just give you the basic details but you have to access the full-text via a link that might say 'SFX' or 'Full-text'.

If you are on-campus or have the VPN activated on your device when you are off-campus, you should click on the link and it will take you to the full-text if the Library subscribes to the journal.

If it doesn't do this, then search Library Catalogue Plus to see if we subscribe to the journal you need (including the correct year).  If you get stuck, contact the Library (library@lboro.ac.uk).

You can only access a journal article if the Library subscribes to it. If we do and you are on-campus, or have the VPN activated on your device if you are off-campus, you should be able to get straight to it.

If you still can't access it, then search Library Catalogue Plus to see if we subscribe to the journal you need (including the correct year) . If we do, but you still can't access it, contact the Library (library@lboro.ac.uk).

From Library Catalogue Plus look at the options at the side of the page and click on ‘eBook’ in the ‘Format’ section to limit the results to eBooks. Click on ‘Get full text’ to open the eBook.

For referencing and bibliographies use Cite Them Right Harvard. You can also contact your Academic Librarian
