Mahmut Akpinar

Muslim Chaplain Dr. Mahmut Akpinar

I was born in Turkey in 1968. I studied middle school and high school for 7 years at Imam Hatip High Schools, which are common in Turkey, providing Islamic education, teaching the Koran and training imams. I completed my university education in the field of political science. Later, I received a master's and doctorate degrees in political science. I grew up in a Muslim family and a Muslim environment. I have been engaged in education activities in high school and higher education for many years. I taught in public administration, political science, middle eastern politics and political history at universities. I have academic publications and books on the Kurdish question, Middle East Politics and Public Administration.

I came to the UK with my family in 2015. After moving to the UK, I founded an academic consultancy firm, giving seminars, lectures. I also regularly write about social issues in a Turkish newspaper. I support interfaith dialog studies within the Dialog Society. In 2020-2021, I received two semesters of Clinical Pastoral Training online on chaplaincy. I have CPSP-approved CPE (clinical pastoral education) certificates that provide chaplaincy training established in the USA. I like writing, reading, traveling and nature. I'm happy to help people, listen to them, solve their problems. I'm married and I have four kids and a cat :)

In the 2021-2022 academic year, I started working as a volunteer Muslim chaplain at Loughborough university. I continue my learning journey with the help of my experienced and friendly Chaplain colleagues.
