Why I chose Loughborough
Loughborough was always my top choice. A big part of that was the reputation for economics, but also the sporting side of the university. The campus really stood out to me as well, it just felt like somewhere I could see myself living.
Now I’m in my second year, I can honestly say it was the right decision. The teaching has been great, the people are exactly what I hoped for, and overall it’s just lived up to everything I expected.
Why accommodation stood out
Accommodation played a big part in my decision. One of the main things was knowing I could stay on campus for my whole degree, which not every university offers.
Being close to lectures, the library, and all the sports facilities just made it feel like the easiest option. There’s also so much choice between halls, whether you want something quieter or more social, catered or self-catered, so it felt like there was something for everyone.
Why I chose to stay in halls
For me, it’s all about convenience. Everything you need is right there, lecture halls, study spaces, gyms, and social spaces.
You’re also surrounded by like-minded people, which makes a big difference. It just makes university life feel a lot more straightforward and enjoyable.
Settling in and making friends
Living on campus made settling in so much easier. You’re constantly around people, whether that’s in your hall, walking to lectures, or just around campus.
Those small day-to-day interactions add up quickly. You start recognising people, then chatting, and before you know it you’ve built proper friendships.
It’s also really easy to get involved in events and socials because everything is on your doorstep. You don’t have to think about travelling or missing out, you can just go.
Getting involved and hall life
One of my highlights has definitely been being on hall committee. It’s given me the chance to help plan events, improve the student experience, and meet loads of people along the way.
You end up making really good friends through it, and it’s something that adds a lot to your time at university.
In general, living in halls just gives you loads of opportunities to get involved, whether that’s through events, sports, or just socialising with people around you.
My favourite part of living on campus
The people, easily. You meet so many different people from different backgrounds, and there are always opportunities to get involved in something.
That’s what makes it such a good experience, you’re never short of things to do or people to meet.
Advice for new students
It’s completely normal to feel nervous about moving into halls. You’re living with new people and it’s a big change.
But everyone is in the same position, everyone wants to make friends and have a good time. If you go in with a positive mindset and put yourself out there a bit, you’ll settle in quickly.
Choosing where to live after first year
My biggest advice is don’t rush into anything. There’s a lot of pressure early on to sign for houses, but there are always more options than it seems.
Your friendships and preferences will change over time, so it’s worth waiting until you’re sure about what you want.
Also, if you’ve enjoyed being on campus, staying in halls again is definitely worth considering. It’s convenient, social, and just makes life easier.
