Why I Chose Loughborough

I chose Loughborough because of how renowned the course was, the quality of teaching, and the level of advice, knowledge and experience I’ve been given. The facilities were also exceptionally good compared to other universities I visited across the UK.

Living on campus was really important to me when choosing a university. I live in Towers because it’s close to my course and just more convenient. I’m really busy with my studies and struggle to cook meals regularly, so having ready-made meals available has been super easy and honestly made me feel like I’m at home again.

Life in halls

I chose to return to halls throughout my studies because being on committee meant I needed to be close by in case anyone needed me. Being so close to my course was also a big factor - I didn’t want to be walking super far every day.

Living on campus has made it much easier to settle into university life and make friends. Being close to everything and having it all so accessible meant I could go to events, play sport and see friends easily. I really feel like I’m living more of the university experience by being on campus, which has always been my top priority.

Being part of the Towers Hall committee has helped a lot with my sense of community. I’ve also really enjoyed being part of my fine art course and playing lots of rugby on main campus. It’s helped me become a better player and has definitely helped with not feeling lonely.

Catered Living and Community

The catered meals are one of my favourite parts of living in halls. They’re super easy and convenient, with lots of options and variety at each meal. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever left feeling hungry. Towers dining hall food is the best place.

Some of my favourite memories from living on campus are hall day and summer ball. Being outside with friends, celebrating the end of the year, enjoying the weather, having barbecues and dressing up - they’re definite highlights.

The support teams in halls have also been amazing. The wardens, disability support team, cleaning and security staff are always helpful, kind and considerate, and the accommodation is always really clean. Having that extra support around makes a big difference.

Advice for Future Students

Before moving in, I was worried about fitting in, liking the people I lived with and even things like storage. But once I got to know everyone and realised how close we all were, it became really easy to build good relationships - even if we hadn’t seen each other all day.

To anyone feeling nervous about moving into halls for the first time, I’d say just try everything and be yourself. It can be hard to get things going at first, but once you settle in and get to know people, you’ll find your second home very easily.

Overall, the best thing about living in halls is being in the centre of everything that comes with university life and being around so many different people. It really lets you live that uni lifestyle.

When choosing where to live after first year, pick somewhere that feels enjoyable and like home. If you’ve already found a community, why move away? Stick with what feels right.
