After two years of delivering its annual Showcase online, the national body for the humanities and social sciences will once again throw open the doors at its London home on 17-18 June.
From Loughborough, Dr Siân Adiseshiah, Reader in English and Drama has been selected as an exhibitor for the showcase with partners Dr Amy Culley, from the University of Lincoln, and Dr Jonathon Shears from Keele University.
Titled ‘What does growing older mean to us?’, their exhibit will present everyday experiences of growing older in the early 19th century, while inviting visitors to reflect on their own notions of ageing.
Speaking about the showcase, Dr Adiseshiah said: “I am delighted to be part of this British Academy event and to be able to share my research in older age and literature with visitors to the exhibition.
“Everyone has a story to tell about growing older. Our exhibit shows how this experience was viewed in the past and the ways our own cultural attitudes have been influenced by the stories we have inherited. How might we collectively re-imagine and write new stories of ageing? We want people of all ages to share their own stories about what growing older means to them.”

The British Academy Summer Showcase is free to attend, and open to all. It is being held at the Academy’s Grade I listed Georgian terrace home, 10-11 Carlton House Terrace, from:
