Background
Karthik completed his Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communication Engineering at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad in 2024. During his undergraduate studies, he worked on antenna design projects including SIW-based antenna arrays for 6G applications and reconfigurable antennas for sub-6 GHz communication systems, and received several awards for his academic and research contributions, including the 2024 AMTA Eric Walton Scholarship, the 2023 IEEE AP-S Undergraduate Summer Research Scholarship, and the 2023-25 Piyush Dutta Innovation and Invention Prize.
He then worked as a Project Associate at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, where he contributed to the design and simulation of antenna arrays for radar applications.
In 2025, he joined the Wolfson School at Loughborough University to begin his PhD, focusing on Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) for automotive radar, as part of the DRIVE (Diverse Research in Inclusive Vehicle Environments) research cluster, which develops sensing technologies and studies human credit and studies human behaviour to make road networks safer and more.
Research
My research focuses on Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) for autonomous vehicles, with the aim of enabling a single radar system to perform both environmental sensing and inter-vehicle communication simultaneously. A central motivation of this work is safety: by enabling vehicles to detect objects hidden from view, such as those blocked by other vehicles, this research aims to give autonomous vehicles earlier awareness of danger than conventional radar allows.
