Design students are presented with their 2021 Starpack Awards

Students from the School of Design and Creative Arts were presented with their awards during an evening ceremony which have been awarded to the students for their innovative work.

In total there were 42 students who received awards from the 2021 Starpack Student Awards. Altogether, five students received gold – with two receiving the Sponsor Award and another the runner-up sponsor award in their categories – five more were awarded silver, 10 bronze and 21 highly commended.

The awards were presented by the Dean, Professor Cees de Bont who commented that:

“The Starpack Competition is sponsored by the major players in the packaging industry. They manage to get design students even more excited about packaging innovations through awards and placements. Under the guidance of our Senior Lecturer Dr George Torrens, many of our students took part in the Starpack competition.

This year again, it was amazing to see the quality of our contributions. It is the culmination of many years of academic research on packaging at Loughborough University as well as the fresh energy and creativity of new generations of designers. Suffice to say that this year was exceptionally good. Congratulations to all award winners!”

The University has been entering the Student Starpack Awards since 2014, and every year has seen promising results. Many of this year’s award recipients were first-year students - 36 of the 42 winning entries were Part A students and their submissions were in response to a chosen Starpack brief as part of their first-year Industrial Design Studies module.
