Our study opportunities

We offer programmes at both Master’s and PhD level.

An international cohort, our postgraduate students come from a variety of academic backgrounds spanning health, journalism and business as well as the creative arts.

MA in Applied Storytelling

Our unique MA in Applied Storytelling allows students to develop a wealth of skills and knowledge.

By joining one of the Storytelling Academy’s live research projects, our Master’s students get hands-on experience of using storytelling within contexts of community building, personal and professional development and policy making.

Following graduation, many of them remain with us to pursue their doctoral studies.

We are currently developing some of the MA modules as stand-alone training programmes that will be available both in person and online.

Our PhD opportunities

We are home to a thriving community of doctoral researchers, working across a range of applied storytelling practices.

We are delighted to announce that we will soon be offering fully-funded studentships for doctoral study, relating to the UNESCO Chair’s programme.

As part of the East Midlands Sustainable Living and Mental Well-Being initiative (EM-SLAM), we will also be supporting a further cohort of doctoral students who will work with communities to explore issues around climate anxiety and ecological grief – and their impact on our mental health.

EM-SLAM is an AHRC-funded Doctoral Focal Award, led by the Storytelling Academy in partnership with De Montfort, Leicester and Nottingham Trent universities.

We are always happy to receive applications from prospective doctoral researchers with other funding arrangements, including self-funding students.
