Research groups and centres

Sara is a lecturer and Programme Leader for BA Graphic Communication & Illustration and BA Graphic Design. With academic experience in Brazil and the UK, Sara joined Loughborough University in 2022. Prior to that, Sara was an adjunct professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) for 10 years, conducting research, extension activities, and teaching different modules of Graphic Design at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Sara has a PhD in Typography and Graphic Communication from the University of Reading, UK, and MSc in Design from the Federal UFRGS, Brazil.

Sara's main research interest is in Information design. She is interested in how we design, teach, and use information design artefacts. Most recently she has been investigating infographics of personal narratives as a teaching practice.

For her PhD, she investigated the use of informative and decorative pictures in health & safety posters for children.

Sara is also part of the research project "Investigations of teaching and purposes of drawing as interdisciplinary knowledge, bridging Design, Visual Arts, Architecture, and schools", from the University of the State of Santa Catarina (UDESC), Brazil.

Sara teaches modules across the BA in Graphic Design, the BA in Graphic Communication & Illustration, and the MA in Graphic Design and Visualisation.

Occasionally she also teaches in the Specialisation in Graphic Design at UFRGS, Brazil.

Sara is interested in how we design, teach, and use information design artefacts.
