Ruth Sumner has over twenty years’ experience of working on Fine Art programmes at both MA and BA level has second supervised practice based Fine Art research students. She has worked as a Senior Lecturer at Lincoln University, Lancaster University and De Montfort University. During this time, she has gained experience as a year leader at level 5 and a programme leader for MA Fine Art. She has also been an external panel member for periodic reviews and Fine Art validation events at other Universities. Her specialist teaching area is painting and her own work has been exhibited across the UK including the John Moores show of contemporary painting. Most recently she has been selected for inclusion in the Fully Awake 6.6 exhibition in Manchester - a project/publication initiated by the UK wide research group, Teaching Painting.

She has developed and received funding for artist symposiums as well as delivered talks and workshops at public galleries. She has managed artist-led spaces for several years, and been consultant and mentor for various arts organisations and their members in the East Midlands. She was until recently, an elected trustee of the City of Leicester Arts and Museums Trust where she co-created the Contemporary Encounters at Leicester Museums artist residency.
