Ruth Sumner has over twenty five years’ experience of working on Fine Art programmes at both MA and BA level has supervised practice based Fine Art research students. She has worked as a Senior Lecturer at De Montfort University, Lincoln University and Lancaster University. During this time, she has gained experience as a BA year leader and a programme leader for MA Fine Art. She is currently an External Examiner in Fine Art as well as an external panel member for periodic reviews and Fine Art validations at other UK Universities. Her specialist teaching area is painting and her own work has been exhibited across the UK including the John Moores show of contemporary painting. She was invited to be included in Fully Awake 6.6 - a project and publication key to the UK wide research group, Teaching Painting.

She has developed and received funding for artist symposiums as well as delivered talks and workshops at public galleries. She has managed artist-led spaces for several years and been consultant and mentor for various arts organisations and their members in the East Midlands. She was until recently, an elected trustee of the City of Leicester Arts and Museums Trust where she co-created the Contemporary Encounters at Leicester Museums, artist residency.
