El’s previous academic experience includes, a First Class BSc Honours Degree in Product Design from the University of Huddersfield which, was completed whilst establishing and managing her own business. This was followed by a Postgraduate MA (eca) in Product Design from University of Edinburgh, in which she specialised in cultural considerations in design.
During her MA she collaborated with the team at Gearbox Kenya to produce Solar Lighting designs which reflected the needs of the Kenyan people, one of which was exhibited in the 2016 Arts Showcase at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Her current research is focused on the analysis and implementation of Digital Technologies into Cultural Heritage with an investigation into 3D Scanning and digital applications in museums.
Thesis title: Exploring Ideas of Digital Heritage in the Museum Environment.
El’s research explores the relationship between Digital Technologies and the modern Heritage Environment. She is using her past cultural experience to investigate how Museums in the UK, who are currently in a period of austerity, can increase public engagement and outreach by utilising digital methods such as 3D Scanning, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality.
