Barbara's background is rooted in Architecture and Human Factors for Inclusive Design. She is a qualified architect with experience in both the architectural and retail sectors, with specific strengths in space planning and interests in biophilic and inclusive design.
Barbara's research interests focused on applying human factors/ergonomics to the design approaches for new build homes in the UK. Funded by the Dunhill Medical Trust (rebranded as The Vivensa Academy), her research centred on developing dementia-inclusive housing standards and contributing to projects that enhance accessibility, wellbeing, and social connection.
Thesis title: Inclusive Design for Dementia Standards: Enabling Future Home Adaptations in the UK.
Supervisors: Emeritus Professor Sue Hignett and Professor Malcolm Cook.
