Alex, formerly Deputy Head of the Human Factors Research Group at the University of Nottingham, has extensive experience in the NHS and academic research focusing on applied healthcare human factors, service design, medical technology design, and PPIE. She has an international reputation for healthcare human factors and holds an Honorary Professorship at the University of Cincinnati. In addition to her academic roles she has worked in the NHS on patient safety and medical device design and evaluation.
Passionate about PhD supervision, she has guided diverse projects, including topics on Caesarean scar rehabilitation, novel data sets for earlier disease detection and diagnosis, mind uploading and design of medical devices for paediatric users. She is interested in developing PhD pathways to ensure access and inclusion for diverse students and researchers.
Her teaching centres on human factors and user-centered design, aiming to equip students for real-world engineering challenges.
