Curator Comment by Chiaki KAMO about “Go and Go Home” by Meika NAKAMURA

The reason the artist made the artwork was that when she was taking a walk looking for the scenery to be the subject of the university landscape assignment, she was attracted to the railroad tracks and took a picture when the train was arriving.

When she was in Ibaraki prefecture, where she was born, she rarely got on the train, and only started using trains a lot after coming to Tokyo as a university student. Because of the merits of trains, she fell in love with them. She really likes the sound of trains, the shape of the railroad tracks, and the wind at railroad crossings as the train passes by. "I hope you can feel the relationship between the train and the artist”, she said.

Her relationship between the theme "connections" and the artwork is that when she goes back to her hometown, when she goes back to where she lives, wherever she goes, she al-ways get on trains, and changes trains. You can go to lands that you have never visited be-fore. Therefore, the trains and the railroad tracks on which they run are special to her in the ability to "connect" various places.

This artwork may be an artwork that "connects" the artist with the world and the artist with the future.

Curator Comment by Chiaki KAMO about “Sense of Place” by Anna LONG

"This artwork conveys a sense of my place and an emotional connection to my hometown of Northern Ireland,” the artist says. She also says, "By combining different materials, I create visual interest and line up 2D maps to liven up the flatness of my work. The warm, rustic and organic color palette is another aspect of my hometown. It reflects the natural landscape of Northern Ireland that is tied together, further strengthening my thinking”.

This artwork uses various materials to express the artist’s feelings and is an important tool to "connect" her with her hometown.
