Curator Comment by Yao TONG about “Connection” by Kiki MISORA

The theme of 2021’s postcard exhibition is “connections”. That means link and join, and when you use the word “connections”, you must have two objects in your hands for comparison. The emotions of the artist or the things which they want to express depends on the choices of the objects they choose for comparison. YAMAMOTO Miku (artist name: MISORA Kiki) chose “electronic” and “intelligence” for her connections, and there are some abstracted metaphors hidden in this relationship.

This artwork is unified by the color mauve, which gives a feeling of mystery and anxiety. In the center of the postcard is the scene of a woman (intelligence) touching the computer (electronic). Looking at the details of the woman's right hand, you will find that the part of her palm in contact with the monitor is scattered like electronic code. This is a connection between the real and the virtual, the woman becomes a fictional consciousness coming out from the virtual.

Hidden behind the connection between electronic and intelligence is person to person connection. The woman coming out from the monitor will become a flower of goodwill or a knife of malice depending on our choices. In modern society, almost everyone has the chance to access the network, in a world where you are not responsible for what you say, will you use her as a weapon to hurt other people?

Curator Comment by Yao TONG about “Good Morning” by Wojciech KRUPA

The name of Wojciech KRUPA’s postcard is “Good Morning”. When you wake up in the morning, the first thing you do is wash your face. And the photograph on the postcard is exactly the objects that you will see every morning which are behind the mirror.

We always say that by looking at somebody’s vanity is to half understand somebody’s life. It tells us the importance of the medicines we have to take every day. Somebody may take nothing but others may take lots of things. Everyone’s lives are different, if you were lucky to find someone  similar to you, you would want to say “good morning” every day to him\her rather than the medicine.

In the photograph, there is not too much stuff in the vanity but also not too little. The color that looks like oil paint makes the photograph not only a photograph but takes it to another level, and shows’ the emotion of Wojciech KRUPA. Different colors are metaphors for different emotions, the feelings when you wake up and open the vanity and say “good morning” to the medicine.
