Productivity and innovation
We’re investigating how we evaluate, manage and enhance performance, productivity and innovation in a world of resource constraints and continuous social and technological change.
This theme explores how market dynamics, policy frameworks and various socio-economic and behavioural factors influence innovation and performance of private and public organisations.
Drawing on both data analytics and behavioural insights, our academic community is developing new methodologies to address critical challenges, in contexts ranging from manufacturing and logistics to services and the public sector. Their work investigates how firms can make better strategic and operational decisions, allocate resources and respond to regulation, competition and technological change.
We are bringing together diverse academic disciplines including operational research, operations and supply chain management, economics, marketing, finance, information and organisational sciences.
By linking the technological, socio-economic and human aspects of productivity, this research provides valuable guidance for decision and policy makers seeking to foster innovation that is efficient, equitable and environmentally responsible.
Research questions examined within this theme include:
- How can organisations measure and improve performance and innovation in complex and changing environments?
- What methodologies are required for the analysis of performance of organisations in various contexts and from different perspectives?
- What are the main drivers of productivity differences across firms, sectors and regions?
- How do collaboration, networks and knowledge-sharing influence innovation in business ecosystems?
- In what ways do financial regulation and market conditions affect firms’ capacity to innovate?
- How can digital technologies and data analytics be used to enhance operational efficiency?
