Dr Longxiang Zhao joined Loughborough Business School in February 2021. He previously held posts as an Academic Tutor at the University of Sheffield International College and a member of Teaching Faculty at the University of Sheffield and the University of Reading, whilst studying for his PhD. His PhD thesis focused on biodiversity accounting and accountability in a Chinese context.

Longxiang is currently working as a Research Associate as part of a new Interdisciplinary Circular Economy Centre for Mineral-based Construction Materials (ICEC-MCM) being funded by UKRI, conducting research on enabling capital investment projects for a circular economy, thus, to support the transition to a Circular Economy for construction materials in infrastructure.

The ICEC-MCM is one of five new circular economy research centres funded by the UK Government to help reduce waste, energy and pollution in UK industries. Loughborough University is leading one of the three ‘challenges’ in the ICEC-MCM.

Longxiang is committed to strive for a better world for humans and nature, his research interests are in the following areas:
