Chaowei joined Loughborough Business School as a Lecturer in Finance in June 2023. Before joining this institution, he held the position of lecturer in Economics and served as the program director of MSc Banking and Finance at Keele Business School. Chaowei holds a PhD in Economics, which he obtained from Cardiff Business School.

Chaowei won the Early Career Teacher of the Year award in 2024 at Loughborough Business School and received the Award of the Year-End Lump Sum in Recognition of Sustained Excellence and Valuable Contributions in 2025.

Chaowei is a member of the Money Macro & Finance Society. He has peer-reviewed several journals, including  the European Journal of Finance, Journal of Accounting Literature, International Journal of Finance & Economics, International Review of Financial Analysis, Journal of Chinese Economic and Business Studies, Scottish Journal of Political Economy and China Accounting and Finance Review.

Chaowei also serves as an external examiner for Xi'an Jiao Tong University. Additionally, he is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, which recognises high scholastic achievement at Cardiff University.
