Professor Bramley began his career in 1998 at Manchester’s influential Factory Records, a formative experience that shaped his interest in how new ideas, technologies and cultural movements emerge.
He later established the interdisciplinary design practice four23, serving as its CEO for more than a decade. He led multidisciplinary teams and oversaw more than £20 million in commissions for organisations including adidas, Virgin, Somerset House, Oakley, Médecins Sans Frontières and Chetham’s School of Music.
Major projects included developing Manchester’s Original Modern city strategy with Peter Saville for Manchester City Council; creating visual narratives for U2’s live performances; producing immersive storytelling for the international charity Fight for Peace; developing visual identity work with Mo Farah; and art directing photoshoots featuring high-profile figures including Lionel Messi, Sébastien Loeb and Valentino Rossi.
Professor Bramley said: “I’ve been fortunate to work across Loughborough in recent years and have always found it to be such a welcoming, collegiate and ambitious place. I’m delighted to be taking up this professorial appointment and becoming part of Loughborough’s community.
“Technological, social and environmental change is creating new challenges for organisations and communities. I’m looking forward to helping to strengthen the University’s position in applied futures - bringing disciplines together to help organisations and communities understand change, challenge assumptions and play an active role in shaping what comes next. The aim is to make futures thinking useful, accessible and capable of informing the decisions we make today.”
