The event offered attendees an in-depth look at the future-focused MSc Supply Chain Management programme, developed through a unique collaboration between Loughborough University and MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL). Designed to equip graduates with the advanced analytical and practical skills needed to lead in a data-driven global supply chain environment, the programme blends academic rigour with real-world application.
Through a series of talks and interactive sessions, participants explored the programme’s structure, career pathways, and the value added by the MIT partnership.
A chance to connect and explore
Dr Yasmine Sabri, Programme Lead for the MSc in Supply Chain Management, highlighted the value of the event in helping applicants make informed decisions.
She said: “The Discovery Day offers an opportunity for students to get a real feel of the programme, to meet academics from both Loughborough and MIT in person, and to develop a more in-depth understanding of the structure and design of the course.”
Visitors also had the opportunity to tour the Loughborough campus and network with prospective classmates and academic staff, gaining insight into the support and community that awaits them.
Sustainability at the heart of supply chain transformation
A highlight of the day was a taster lecture delivered by Dr Josué C. Velázquez Martínez, Research Scientist at MIT CTL. His session, Beyond the Pledge: Data-Driven Solutions for Sustainable Supply Chains, challenged students to rethink traditional approaches to logistics.
“Sustainability remains a global challenge - and supply chains are at the centre of it,” he said. “My aim was to raise awareness that traditional models aren’t enough. Future leaders must integrate data and climate considerations into everyday decision-making.”
He also emphasised the broader purpose of the Discovery Day, noting that it gives students a glimpse into the MIT-Loughborough partnership and the transformative experience of being part of this forward-thinking programme.
An exceptional opportunity
The MSc Supply Chain Management stands out for its rigorous academic approach, internationally connected experience, and real-world application. The three-week residential at MIT in Boston offers immersive training in Python, machine learning, and data visualisation, along with industry-led workshops and facility tours.
Students also complete a Capstone project tackling real-world supply chain issues, working directly with industry experts. Upon graduation, they gain access to exclusive MIT Associate Alumni status, offering valuable global networking and career development opportunities.
