Levels of learning

There are 4 levels of award:

Master of Science (MSc) – Study 9 modules

Choose one of our MSc programmes and you will study nine modules. You will study core modules (15 credits each) and choose an additional optional module (15 credits) plus the 60-credit Research Dissertation module.

Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) – Study 8 modules

Choose one of our Diploma courses and you will study eight 15-credit subject-specific modules. As for the MSc programmes, you will study core modules and choose an additional optional module.

Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) – Study 4 modules

Choose one of our Certificate programmes and you will study four 15-credit subject-specific modules. This option is ideal should you wish to learn a specific set of skills and do not have the time to undertake an extended programme. Postgraduate Certificate programmes may also be considered as an entry point for study at MSc level if you do not have the normally recognised entry qualifications.

Professional Development (PD) – Study individual modules

Many of our 15-credit postgraduate modules may be studied to support your professional development. You need have no particular qualification to study in this way which can also provide an entry point for study towards one of our award-bearing courses at Certificate, Diploma or MSc level as The University allows you to 'trade-up' an existing qualification qualification provided you hand in your previous certificate and complete the whole programme within the maximum time permitted.

For example, a Postgraduate Certificate can be upgraded to a Diploma provided the whole programme is completed within 4 years of first registering for the Certificate Programme. Similarly, a Diploma can be upgraded to a MSc provided the whole programme is completed within 5 years of first registering.

This may be the most suitable route of study for you if you are an experienced professional without a higher qualification seeking to enhance your career prospects.
