The built environment

Loughborough University research delivering zero-carbon, safe and resilient buildings, cities and infrastructure.

The built environment is complex, dynamic and rapidly evolving, with highly inter-dependent elements. It is increasingly under pressure from rising urban populations, aging infrastructure, resource constraints and multiple hazards.

To counter these threats, we bring together expertise spanning STEM subjects, social sciences, humanities and the arts to advance research that benefits communities in both the developing and developed world. UK beneficiaries include the government, the NHS, industry, and charities.

Our research is crucial if we are to protect the planet and humanity and achieve net zero-carbon emissions.
