We welcome talented PhD students to continue their career at the forefront of emergent photonic properties in complex nonlinear optical systems.

Together with internationally respected research institutes and leading industry partners, they are applying their diverse knowledge and expertise to advance fundamental discoveries on photonics - accelerating its potential to transform the way we live and work.

Debayan Das

Debayan Das

Debayan is investigating optical frequency combs in micro-resonators or 'microcombs'. He is studying their dynamics, which includes the observation of their formation and subsequent interactions both experimentally and theoretically.

His publications include:

Jordan McConnell

Jordan McConnell

Jordan is exploring real-time control of high-power emissions in miniaturised ultrafast lasers (micro-combs) via machine learning.

Abhishek Paul

Abhishek Paul

Abhishek previously studied at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Mohali.

Aadithya Suresh

Aadithya Suresh

Aadithya completed her Masters degree at the Central University of Kerala, and is now focusing on nonlinear optics.

Akash Dominic Thomas

Akash Dominic Thomas

Akash graduated (MSc Science, 2023) from the Central University of Kerala, India. His research interest is Terahertz science, particularly the interplay of imaging and AI. His research background - developed at the Indian Institute of Technology - involves exploring phase control in coherent beam-combining systems, utilising cutting-edge machine-learning algorithms. His current research - primarily funded by the Leverhulme Trust - is developing a 3D Hyperspectral Imager.

Ashlin Jacob

Ashlin Jacob

Ashlin's PhD is focussed on nonlinear optics, laser cavity microcombs, and terahertz physics, with connections to topology. Ashlin holds a Masters degree in physics from Pondicherry University , India and previously worked as a Junior Research Fellow at the Raman Research Institute, Bangalore, India, contributing to quantum computation and communication research. Ashlin's current work explores the interplay between photonics and nonlinear dynamics to advance communication and sensing technologies, driven by a passion for addressing fundamental challenges in modern optical systems.

Girish Tripathy
