The people working to support our research and innovation culture
Meet the community driving positive changes in our research culture.
Our research and innovation culture is shaped by all of us. Alongside this collective responsibility, the University has colleagues in dedicated roles, working groups and networks who work collaboratively to understand the challenges and support meaningful changes towards a thriving research culture for Loughborough.
Meet the team
Elizabeth Gadd
Head of Research and Innovation Culture and Assessment
Elizabeth (Lizzie) Gadd has worked at Loughborough University for almost 30 years in various roles and as such has a deep understanding of, and commitment to, its research culture. As Head of Research and Innovation Culture and Assessment, she has responsibility for overseeing Loughborough’s efforts to understand, improve, monitor and report on our research culture.
She also has a number of international and national leadership roles including Vice-Chair of the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA), Chair of the International Network of Research Management Societies (INORMS) Research Evaluation Group, and Co-Champion of the Association of Research Managers and Administrators (ARMA) Research Evaluation Group.
Stuart King
Research Quality and Culture Manager
Stuart King drives work to improve how research quality and culture are supported, assessed and recognised at Loughborough, where he helps shape policy and practice across the University. He also serves as one of the University’s EDI Principals for Professional Services and has a strong external focus on responsible research assessment, co-leading the UK CoARA National Chapter.
Stuart brings over a decade of experience in open-access publishing, including more than four years focused on leveraging publishing and peer review to advance research cultures. He has previously served on the Steering Committee for the Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA).
Our research and innovation culture work at Loughborough is also fortunate to have benefited from the time and energy of colleagues contributing through short-term placements.
This includes Graduate Management Trainees Sandra Kwok, Joseph Bou Nassif, Rianne Gayle and Liam O’Connell during their rotations in the Research and Innovation Office, as well as Research Culture Interns Gracie Longman, Megan English and Ayodeji Ogundare, who joined us via the University’s Talent Match Programme.
Collaborating for Culture
Alongside our central team, we work closely with Associate Deans for Research and Innovation and Associate Deans for EDI and EDI Principals for Professional Services, as well as a range of groups and networks that champion positive change across the University.
