Dr McCaul is a theoretical physicist who completed his PhD in 2019 at King's College London. Following this, he was a WM Keck postdoctoral fellow at Tulane university, where his research interests extended to include non-linear optics, quantum control, and their application to technologies such as computing. For this work he won the Tulane School of Science & Engineering’s full-time researcher award.
He moved to Loughborough in April 2024 where his current research focuses on quantum reservoir computing, and the development of methodologies for assessing the quantum advantage derived from both reservoir computing and other quantum technologies.
