My goal is developing quantum engineering into a self-sufficient discipline.

Quantum engineering of components, such as qubits and their small arrays, can rely on well-developed theoretical and experimental methods from quantum physics of solid state, quantum optics and superconductivity, and is already well on its way.

On the contrary, quantum structural engineering, dealing with design, characterization, performance and reliability of large artificial quantum structures (e.g., quantum arrays containing hundreds of qubits), has no such support on the theory side, since the existing methods are inadequate. Its development is therefore critically dependent on the development of corresponding physical theory and can only be achieved in a close collaboration of experimental and theoretical physicists and aspiring quantum engineers.

Expertise: quantum many-body theory, mesoscopic superconductivity, quantum information processing in solid state, quantum engineering, quantum metamaterials.
