CREST's online distance learning MSc offers you the ultimate learning flexibility

Since its creation in 2001, our part-time Distance Learning (DL) MSc has developed a global reputation for quality, as accredited by IMechE and IET enabling our DL students gain the same learning outcomes as their on-campus counterparts.

Continued investment into the programme's resources and delivery has ensured that our MSc remains at the forefront of innovative teaching and technological developments.

As one of our DL students you will benefit from the most advanced set of e-learning tools, including a portfolio of virtual learning laboratories and simulation software. You will carry out experiments that mirror your on-campus equivalents, including our unique ‘world first’ PV Remote Lab, which allows DL students to access and control a real physical laboratory!

On completion of the Distance Learning MSc in Renewable Energy Systems Technology, you will become one of our highly skilled graduates, sought after by industry and well placed to take advantage of the opportunities available within the renewables sector.

Flexibility

Distance learning with CREST is a form of education designed to be as flexible as possible to meet the training needs and requirements of both you, as an individual, and your organisation. 

Flexibility of place — although tutorial support is a key element of the CREST programmes, you are not required to meet your tutors face-to-face. Therefore study is not confined to any particular location and you can study anywhere in the world!

Distance learning students can also join us at our wonderful Loughborough campus as part of a blended approach to their study. This means you can choose to study completely at a distance or take some of the modules on-campus side-by-side with our full-time MSc students. 

Flexibility of time — enables you to fit your study around your work or family commitments at the most convenient times for you. Lectures are both streamed live and recorded so you can view and download them with ease. 

Flexibility of content —our spread of optional modules means you can devise a programme of study which precisely reflects your areas of interest.

Flexibility of pace — allows you to control the rate at which you study. For most students, the typical completion time is 3-4 years.

In other words, distance learning with CREST gives you, the learner, more control over where and how you learn.

This does not mean that our programmes are not structured. In fact, quite the opposite! Your learning will take place within a planned framework of study.

Accreditation

Both full-time and distance learning versions of our MSc in Renewable Energy Systems Technology is approved by two premier UK professional Engineering Institutions; the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IMechE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

This programme is CEng accredited and fulfils the educational requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer when presented with a CEng accredited bachelor’s programme

The Renewable Energy Systems Technology MSc is an established and highly regarded course worldwide, and our graduates are in great demand in the renewables industry around the world.

Jenny Evans

Jenny is responsible for maintaining, monitoring and facilitating the student learning experience of distance learning students and is the first point of contact for pre-application enquiries about the course.

Flexible and Distance Learning Manager

Dr Sheryl Williams

Sheryl is responsible for the day to day management of the REST Distance Learning programme this involves the identification and implementation of innovative pedagogical solutions to ensure that the flexible and distance learning programmes learning outcomes are met.

She develops e-learning platforms to support distance learning students and ensures that distance learning students receive appropriate academic feedback and tutorial support through supervision and coordination of the academic learning support team.
