MSc Data Science

"My journey of becoming a student at Loughborough University began during the first COVID-19 lockdown. I used this time as an opportunity to reconnect and think about my passions. I attended quite a few virtual events and took part in a lot of engaging, interactive workshops. I have always had a desire to help those less fortunate, but I hadn't quite figured out how I was going to achieve this.

"I then came across an event where I heard about topics relating to data-driven problem solving, tech for good and corporate sustainability, and low and behold I knew I wanted to explore more. During my search, I came across an array of newly launched data science courses. I had always heard good things about Loughborough University, so I took the plunge and submitted my application! Now, here I am! My Loughborough University experience so far has been exciting. Although pivoting to virtual is not how I pictured my first semester, it is going well so far! I'm looking forward to meeting everyone in person soon and relishing the experience of Loughborough for the remainder of the year ahead."

Why did you choose to study MSc Data Science?

I have a passion for helping others and having an impact on the lives of those who need support. Through the use of data-driven technologies, positive programmes and initiatives are being developed that I would one day want to be involved in. I want to land myself in a data career whereby I can have an impact. There are many data challenges that various organisations need to solve, and I hope I can one day be the bridge to help make a real positive change!

What do you think your Data Science degree will support your career goals?

The skills I am currently learning on the Data Science programme are a real mix of STEM and non-STEM disciplines.

I believe these will equip me with the skills to be a well-rounded candidate for any organisation and I hope I will be able to transfer my skills into any data science related role in the future.
