Research and expertise

I graduated from the University of Sheffield with a BSc in physics (2019), an MSc in energy engineering with industrial management (2020), and I joined the EPSRC ERBE CDT programme in the autumn of 2020.

Having completed work placements in various parts of energy engineering with companies such as E.ON UK, EDF, and AMCO-Giffen, I have developed a passion for understanding the complexity of energy systems. My MSc project focussed on the use of agent-based modelling techniques to simulate a district heat network, which set the basis for my continued research into the dynamic modelling of multi-vector energy and heating systems.

My current research focuses on energy flexibility in the built environment. Energy flexibility is a relatively new concept which looks at intelligent management of energy within buildings to shift power and energy demand to save consumers money and provide balancing services to the grid. My PhD looks at determining the key aspects of the residential environment that contribute to energy flexibility to generate a scoring mechanism for policy, design, and energy planning purposes.

Current research activity

  • PhD student – ERBE CDT – Standardising energy flexibility in the residential built environment

Recently completed research projects

  • District scale modelling of district heating using agent-based modelling techniques

Teaching

I frequently contribute to learning and teaching activities, including participation in widening participation and outreach work through The Brilliant Club as a mentor in schools and as a STEM ambassador

Profile

I am actively seeking industrial and governmental engagement in the topic of energy flexibility to ground my academic work and generate active knowledge exchange in this new and fast-moving research area.

I also welcome practical experience on projects relating to the sustainable development of energy systems, particularly in urban environments where there are often multi-vector systems. I'm passionate about ensuring energy is more sustainable for now and future generations, with a great desire to ensure the worlds energy demands are met in a low-carbon, responsible and safe way.
