Loughborough University awarded £1.3M worth of equipment to establish the National Facility for Infrastructure (N-FIC)

The School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering has been awarded £1.3M worth of equipment to establish the National Facility for Infrastructure Construction (N-FIC).

This places Loughborough University as a key stakeholder in the UK Collaboratorium for Research on Infrastructure and Cities (UKCRIC), the primary mechanism for investment in research to underpin the future built environment in the UK.

N-FIC’s primary focus is on modern methods of delivery and maintenance of infrastructure, underpinned by the vision of transforming and modernising the construction industry.

A suite of state-of-the-art equipment including a full-scale automated flexible mould controlled by 100 actuators, and new robotic cells for 3D printing and spraying will provide Loughborough with the capability to undertake cutting edge research in collaboration with partners in academia and industry.
