It acknowledges the sustained contribution of established technical professionals whose work supports excellence in research and industry engagement.
IOM3 is a professional engineering, environmental and scientific institution, as well as a registered charity governed by Royal Charter. IOM3 supports professionals in materials, minerals, mining and associated technical disciplines, championing the transition to a low-carbon, resilient and resource efficient society.
As Senior Experimental Officer in Loughborough’s Department of Materials, Dr Yendall plays a key role in supporting research and teaching across the department and the wider University. He also manages external consultancy within the Loughborough Materials Characterisation Centre (LMCC), a core research and enterprise facility at Loughborough University that has been recognised as a Centre of Excellence.
The LMCC provides researchers with access to advanced characterisation facilities, enabling high-quality analysis of materials down to the atomic level. Through his leadership of the centre, Dr Yendall has helped support a wide range of research projects, collaborations and industry partnerships.

Speaking about receiving the award, Dr Yendall said: “I’m incredibly honoured to be recognised for this prestigious award as a research technical professional and thankful to have such a strong and able team around me. It doesn’t feel like I’ve been at Loughborough for an extended period of time but looking around, I guess, it could be classed that I’m now part of the furniture!”
