Staff and Student Statistical Information
The University contributes to and makes available a range of statistical information.
The University publishes headline statistics on an annual basis on its Facts and Figures and Transparency Information webpages.
All universities and other higher education providers in the UK are required to submit annual information to HESA (the Higher Education Statistics Agency). If the answer to your query is available from HESA you can expect comparable and consistent data for all HE providers while saving the time and resources of publicly funded universities.
HESA publishes open data under a Creative Commons licence about students, staff, finance and other aspects of higher education. HESA can also provide tailored datasets to answer specific questions, although HESA itself is not a public authority under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and may charge a fee for the provision of tailored data extracts.
Undergraduate Applicant Data
Applications for undergraduate study at Loughborough University must be made through UCAS, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service. UCAS is an independent charity that provides the UK’s national undergraduate admissions service. Every year around 700,000 students apply via UCAS for full-time undergraduate courses, at nearly 400 UK universities and colleges. UCAS publishes a range of freely available information, including release statistics and reports for each application cycle.
For details of other freely available UCAS information, see UCAS’ Guide to information. The UCAS website also provides guidance on Requesting information.
Freedom of Information requests
Where requests for information which could be obtained via HESA or UCAS are received, the University will normally consider the information to be exempt from disclosure in accordance with Section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (Information accessible to applicant by other means). Examples of information which would be available from HESA include student demographics, completion data and graduate destinations, and staff demographics, salary band and mode of employment.
Personal Data
Personal data is exempt from disclosure in accordance with Section 40 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. The University will not release information which could result in the identification of individuals. Where appropriate, information will be released in accordance with the ICO Anonymisation: Managing Data Protection Risk Code of Practice (i.e. where the information relates to fewer than five individuals, a figure of <5 will be quoted). This is to prevent the possible identification of those individuals.
Requesting your own personal data
If your request is for your own personal data – i.e. it is Subject Access Request – it falls outside the scope of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and you should refer to the University’s Data Privacy website for guidance on how to contact the Data Protection Officer.
