Textile and Clothing Repair Café

As part of Sustainability Week, join us for a pop-up Repair Café. Instead of throwing away damaged items, bring your well-loved clothes or textiles and learn how to give them a second life. 

Technical Tutors from the School of Design and Creative Arts, Bee and Claire, will be on hand to teach you beautiful and practical repair techniques. This session is all about reducing waste and embracing a circular economy by keeping our belongings in use for longer. 

What you can learn: 

• Visible Mending: Master the art of Sashiko stitching and darning to turn holes into decorative features. 

• Simple Fixes: Get support with essential skills like sewing buttons back on or reinforcing frayed seams. 

• Creative Solutions: Use the threads, yarns, and buttons provided to add a unique touch to your repairs. 

This workshop is part of Loughborough University’s Sustainability Week, a week-long celebration and call to action focused on creating a greener future for our campus and beyond.  

What to bring: 
Please bring along any items of clothing or household textiles that need a little TLC. Please note: We are only able to assist with textile and clothing repairs. This is not a general repair cafe. 

Accessibility and Experience

This is a relaxed, drop-in session suitable for all abilities. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned stitcher, everyone is welcome to come and sit, sew, and chat. 

There is step-free access into Martin Hall foyer and an accessible toilet is located on the ground floor corridor.
