About the event

Are you interested in futures thinking, science fiction, creative writing, sustainability or speculative design? Join us for an introductory session to Futurecasting where you will gain skills within defining, describing and developing plausible future scenarios related to climate justice.

This is a free event and we'll be providing pizza to help feed your ideas!

What is Futurecasting?

Futurecasting is a means of speculating upon possible futures for creative purposes. This methodology is used within design, writing and business. It is not about predicting The future, but rather speculating upon a wide spectrum of possibilities in order to generate meaningful discussion about what futures we want and what futures we don’t want. During this workshop participants will engage with PESTLE analysis, the Futures Wheel and the Futures Cone in order to develop future scenarios.

The Workshop Scenario

The year is 2044, nations across the globe have adapted to extreme weather conditions and embrace intermittent energy. People live their lives around the ebbs and flows of natural and renewable energy systems. The 24/7 lifestyles of the 2020s have been left behind as cities introduce ‘no-tech zones’ - this has resulted in a range of positive impacts in relation to mental health and work/life balance as people start to rediscover boredom and form more localised communities.

Accessibility

The workshop is taking place in the Design School, Room 2.24 and there is step-free access into the building and lift access to the upper floors. For more information about the venue, including photographs, view the access guide for the Design School on AccessAble.

If you have any specific access requirements then please contact LUArts@lboro.ac.uk in advance of your visit and we will do our best to accommodate them.
