After graduation, Fay joined the Unilever IT graduate scheme and began a career in data, moving around the UK and eventually landing in New York. This was where she developed her skills in consulting and analytics while simultaneously discovering a love for the outdoors through skiing, climbing and mountaineering.
In time, Fay’s passion became a hobby. She founded her own data consultancy, BadManners Ltd. This gave Fay the freedom to relocate to Chamonix where she gradually shifted towards full-time outdoor pursuits.
She reflects on how Loughborough helped lay the foundations for a life of curiosity, ambition and reinvention.
Fay said:
“Sport was the heartbeat of my time at university – I played hockey all three years, lived with my teammates, and lived the classic Loughborough experience of training, competing and celebrating alongside study.”
Over the last few years, she has opened new ski lines across the Alps and signed with The North Face as a professional athlete. She most recently led a successful all-female expedition to Patagonia where they opened a new route on an unclimbed peak in the Turbio IV Valley.
Four months into life as a full-time athlete, Fay said:
“I’m focused on telling stories that show women what’s possible – that it’s never too late to start, that you can pivot careers, and that there’s space in the outdoor world for bold, creative female voices.”
