Zuming Zhang (MSc Integrated Industrial Design 2024) has been recognised as the iF Design Student Award 2025 with his project called SALANCE.

SALANCE is an uneven shoulder detection device designed to help people adjust their sitting posture during long periods of study or work. By identifying uneven shoulder height, it aims to prevent musculoskeletal issues such as scoliosis.

As a fitness enthusiast, Zuming initially wanted to design a product that could support gym training. He realised that addressing posture problems in everyday settings could benefit a wider group which led to him creating a wearable neckband focused on daily use.

Winning the iF Design Student Award has been a long-term goal for Zuming. He said:

I hope more people, especially designers, will pay attention to their musculoskeletal health and take better care of their bodies.

“This award brings back memories of a truly unforgettable year at Loughborough, which shaped the start of my design career. It has been such an exciting journey and I’m incredibly grateful for all the support and guidance from my tutors and fellow students.”

Congratulations on this amazing achievement, Zuming.
