The University’s visit to Abuja began with a small group discussion between the Alumni Engagement Team and eight local alumni. The meeting offered space for open conversation, reflection and collaboration following the alumni offer-holder mixer event on 16 June.
The alumni who took part in the discussion were:
- Abdu Abubakar (Civil Engineering PhD 1993)
- Abdulhameed Mambo (Civil and Building Engineering (Built Environment) PhD 2013)
- Binta Aliyu (Water and Waste Engineering MSc 2012)
- Hassan Kida (Water and Waste Engineering MSc 1983)
- Hezekiah Agogo (Advanced Process Engineering MSc 2009)
- Mohammed Ndanusa (Water and Waste Engineering MSc 1987)
- Muhammad Muhammad (Institute for Diplomacy and International Governance PhD 2022)
- Oladimeji Ladipo (Business Analysis and Management MSc 2012)
Together, the group discussed their experiences at Loughborough, career journeys, and ideas for strengthening alumni engagement in Nigeria.
At the end of the meeting, the alumni presented the team with a handmade tapestry, a heartfelt and creative gesture of appreciation that captured the pride and spirit of the Loughborough alumni community in Abuja.

The University’s Global Engagement Team and the Alumni Engagement Team also hosted an event with Professor Sam Grogan, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education and Student Experience). This was a wider alumni and offer-holder reception at BluCabana Restaurant & Café, welcoming around 30 attendees. The event provided a chance for future students to hear from alumni about life at Loughborough, while University staff shared updates from campus and insights into the student experience.
Jing Wang, Engagement Officer (International) from the University’s Alumni Engagement Team said:
It was great catching up with our alumni in such an open and relaxed way and then celebrating with the wider Loughborough community later that evening. The tapestry was a lovely reminder of the strong connection our alumni around the world still feel."
