Three of our Global Alumni Ambassadors in Nigeria share insights into their roles: Ashley Stewart, Tumi Oyetayo, and Hakeem Otiti. Together, they are dedicated to connecting alumni with the University and strengthening the Loughborough alumni network across Nigeria and West Africa.

Ashley is keen to connect the Nigerian alumni community with Loughborough. She said:

“My vision is to serve as a dynamic bridge – connecting alumni, current students, prospective offer holders, and the wider university community in meaningful, sustainable ways.

“I am committed to building an inclusive and collaborative alumni ecosystem that not only celebrates the accomplishments of graduates but also reinforces the lifelong value of a Loughborough education.”

Over the past year, Ashley has curated and hosted the Alumni Spotlight series, an initiative that shines a light on the diverse stories, career pathways and social impact of Loughborough alumni. These events have proven to be powerful storytelling platforms, allowing alumni to share their unique journeys and showcase their achievements after graduating from Loughborough.

Ashley has also organised regional meet-ups in cities including Lagos, Abuja and Accra:

“These engagements help demystify the international study experience, offer guidance, and foster a sense of belonging even before students set foot on campus.

“I hope to expand the scope of alumni involvement in mentorship programmes, research collaborations, professional development initiatives, and cultural exchanges.

“My ambition is to build a model where alumni are not only passive members of a network but active contributors to the Loughborough story – bringing their lived experiences, leadership, and insight back to the University.”

On her experience as an ambassador, Ashley adds:

“What I have most enjoyed about my role a Global Alumni Ambassador is the opportunity to act as a connector and advocate – helping to spotlight the achievements of our alumni while reinforcing the values and excellence that Loughborough University represents.”

Looking ahead, Ashley said:

“There is exciting momentum building across Nigeria and the wider West African region, and the coming months will see a range of opportunities to get involved, contribute and reconnect with the Loughborough Community.”

Tumi Oyetayo (Global Alumni Ambassador)

As a Nigeria Global Alumni Ambassador, Tumi aims to foster a vibrant and inclusive network that keeps Nigerian alumni engaged with the Loughborough community while also serving as a bridge for current and prospective students.

In his role he said:

“I hope to facilitate opportunities for mentorship, knowledge exchange, and career guidance, helping students better understand what life after university could look like. I also want to build stronger ties between alumni and the university by organising events, amplifying success stories, and highlighting the value of staying connected.”

Reflecting on his experience in the Nigeria alumni network, Tumi shared:

“Being part of the Nigeria alumni network has broadened my professional circle and introduced me to individuals doing remarkable work across different sectors. It’s been incredibly valuable to share insights, collaborate on ideas, and feel a sense of belonging beyond graduation.

“Personally, the experience has reinforced the importance of community and given me the confidence to speak about my journey while encouraging others on theirs. The most valuable aspect has been the willingness of fellow alumni to support one another, whether through referrals, advice, or collaboration.”

When asked about the highlights of his role so far, Tumi said:

“I’ve most enjoyed the opportunity to connect with future students and share authentic stories about life at Loughborough. Speaking to students at institutions and answering their questions has been especially rewarding. It’s fulfilling to know I’m helping them make informed decisions and showing them what’s possible through education. I’ve also enjoyed working alongside other alumni and university staff - it’s been both inspiring and energising.”

Tumi outlined opportunities for alumni to engage with the University:

“Over the coming months, I’m hoping to coordinate more alumni-led events in Nigeria, including career panels, networking meetups, and prospective student Q&A sessions.

“I also plan to explore online opportunities for those who can’t join in person. Alumni can get involved by volunteering to speak at these events, mentoring students, or simply attending to share their experiences.

“Staying active in our WhatsApp or LinkedIn groups is another great way to remain engaged and informed about upcoming opportunities.”
