Loughborough team achieve 2nd place in McKinsey competition

A team of six current students recently competed in the McKinsey Solve It competition, a business case competition established in 2019 by the global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company.

The Loughborough team was the first to represent the University since the introduction of the competition four years ago and they went on to reach the finals and placed 2nd.

A team of six current students recently competed in the McKinsey Solve It competition. This year was the fourth edition of Solve It, a business case competition established in 2019 by the global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company. Which is part of the London office’s efforts to engage with talent from 22 universities across the UK.

Team Florence, who represented Loughborough, consisted of current students Jack Brannan, Flynn Duggan, Isa Hakobyan, Adam Jones, Anjali Nair, and Sunny Summon (pictured below).

In round one, the team had to come up with a high-level digital marketing strategy for IntoUniversity - a non-profit organisation that was assigned as the team’s client- and had to submit a presentation. Out of the 26 teams that entered round one, Team Florence was one of seven teams that made it to the final round.

In the final round, the teams had to further develop the strategy, state how this would be implemented, and quantify the impact it would have.

The final output had to be presented to a panel of judges from McKinsey & Co. and IntoUniversity.

Salomi Senthilkumar, a Senior Delivery Consultant at McKinsey and Loughborough graduate who mentored the team commented:

“Team Florence did an excellent job of presenting their strategy, which included a realistic strategy evidenced by thorough data analysis and understanding problem statements.”

Sunny Summon, a member of Team Florence and a first year Economics student spoke about his experience:

“It was our university’s first time in the case competition, in which myself and the rest of the team were selected to be part of the final. Hopefully, Loughborough University has many more successful years in this competition and can show everyone what our university has to offer!”

Congratulations to Team Florence for their success in the competition.
