Data is the New Diesel: Why AI’s Growth Demands a Sustainability Rethink

As we continue to embrace our digital world, together we face a new challenge: how to digitally decarbonise our infrastructure and behaviour, or risk missing the global 2050 net zero target.
Join us online on Monday 6 October from 6:00-7:30pm for an eye-opening event led by alumni and leading experts in Digital Decarbonisation, Professor Ian Hodgkinson and Professor Tom Jackson.
Hosted by Vice-Chancellor Professor Nick Jennings CB FREng FRS, an internationally renowned expert in AI and computer science, this panel discussion will explore:
- What is digital decarbonisation - and why it matters
- How our digital footprints impact the environment
- The surprising costs of data on businesses and the planet
- Ground-breaking research happening at Loughborough
The event will begin online at 6:00pm with an opener from Acting Director of Philanthropy, Alumni and Supporter Engagement, Laura Hutchinson.
Hosted by Vice-Chancellor, you will hear a brief overview of latest research at Loughborough, before our expert digital decarbonisation discussion.
You can submit questions to the panel in advance via our booking form.
We know hosting this session online isn’t without irony - but it is for a good cause. Small actions add up, and awareness is the first step. So, book your place and then delete this email to do your little bit today!
